Ego Dance by Tovan

This one’s called Ego Dance. A Hip-hop/R&B joint straight from the underworld of the mind. No filters, no frontin’. Just me, my shadow, and the crown I never asked for.

It’s that tension between power and peace, ego and essence. I’m talkin’ heavy, bout time that betrays you, wolves that move in silence, and a world that glitches when you speak truth too loud.

Ain’t no hooks for the radio, this is cinematic chaos. Think midnight city lights, dice on the pavement, black roses from the mud. I’m masked up like Lelouch, voice sharp like blade, built from nothin’ but fire and faith.

That Arabic verse? That’s the soul of it. Good and evil, both in one eye. You don’t see light ‘til you bleed in the dark. This track ain’t for validation. It’s a storm for those who been quiet too long.

Produced, mixed, and mastered by me, Tovan. I am the glitch in the Matrix. No cap.

Lyrics

Time, waiting always on your side
It can always let you down
And just keeps on going, round, round, round

Came from the dirt, now I’m lit like a Big
Now they ride on my shit
Talkin’ like Tony, movin’ like Chris
Just powder and her lips
Real life: I’m the glitch in the Matrix
Neo’s a blade, face full of hatred
Grew out the mud like a black rose
Now my wrist talk back like Alexa knows
Man talk tough, move like a runner
I’m calm, still hot like summer
Dripped in none, no stutter
Got her wet, ain’t even touch her
Walk in lookin’ like vengeance
Mind on cash, heart in ascension
Quote me like Shakespeare, vibe like Blade
Sharp in the shade

Crown heavy, yeah, I carry that bitch
Ego ain’t come with a switch
Power in my words, make the whole world glitch
You talkin’ ’bout my shit
While I got double this pitch
Fuck a throne, I’m the storm in the palace
Hail like I came from malice
Play no games, no need for a chalice

Time, waiting always on your side
It can always let you down
And just keeps on going, round, round, round
(I saw you dancin’ with your ego again
Talkin’ like God but you build with your sin
All of that fire, it’s burnin’ your skin)
Hoo, yeah
Hoo, yeah
Hoo, yeah
Hoo

No stylist, chains, no mask
Still got presence, crack your glass
Time don’t wait and ain’t got a liar
Fuck your fame, we just need our lairs
You know where wolves don’t bark
They just come bite in pairs
Ain’t got time for a fake cosign
These man just repeat old lines

Crown heavy, yeah, I carry that bitch
Ego ain’t come with a switch
Power in my words, make the whole world glitch
You talkin’ ’bout my shit
While I got double this pitch
Fuck a throne, I’m the storm in the palace
Hail like I came from malice
Play no games, no need for a chalice

I move like Lelouch, mask off for truth
Built in the dark, now I speak for youth
Came from nothin’, now I’m breakin’ the loop
Ain’t no role model, just the proof
Fuck they love, don’t beg for praise
Crowns in my scars, pain my base
Ain’t drill, ain’t rap, bloodline phase
Talkin’ my shit till buried in grace

Time, waiting always on your side
It can always let you down
And just keeps on going, round, round, round
I saw you dancin’ with your ego again
Talkin’ like God but you build with your sin
Who do you hurt when you always must win?

Annotation

Tovan - Ego Dance

“Time, waiting always on your side / It can always let you down / And just keeps on going, round, round, round”
I wrote this part thinkin’ how time always feels like it’s on your side, like you got space to figure life out, but truth is, that’s a trap. Time don’t wait, it don’t pause, it just keeps movin’, round and round, like a loop you didn’t ask to be in. I was channelin’ that Sisyphus myth, the dude cursed to push a boulder forever, same grind, no exit. But I also had The Truman Show in mind, that fake sense of comfort when you stuck in a routine that feels safe but dead inside. People think they got time, but time ain’t a friend, it’s more like a quiet thief. That line’s me callin’ it out, if you ain’t movin’, time’s already leavin’ you behind.

“Came from the dirt, now I’m lit like a Big / Now they ride on my shit”
This bar’s me speakin’ on elevation. “Came from the dirt” means I really started from the bottom, no silver spoon, just struggle, silence, and self-made grind. “Now I’m lit like a Big” got a double edge to it. On one side, I’m talkin’ Notorious B.I.G., a legend who came from the streets and turned pain into power. On the other, I’m talkin’ “Big” as in energy, big presence, big light, no more shadows. “Now they ride on my shit” is me callin’ out how people love to jump on when the wave is up, but they wasn’t there when it was dirt and echoes. It’s a statement about recognition, but also the fake love that success attracts.

“Talkin’ like Tony, movin’ like Chris / Just powder and her lips”
This line’s all about persona and movement. “Talkin’ like Tony” is a nod to Tony Montana from Scarface, loud, bold, full of ego and danger. It’s that reckless confidence people put on when they feel untouchable. “Movin’ like Chris” flips it. That’s Chris Tucker, especially his Rush Hour energy, quick, flashy, unpredictable. So it’s someone talkin’ big like a gangster but movin’ slick like a performer. “Just powder and her lips” brings it down to reality, the illusion fades and all that’s left is the coke dust and vanity. It’s a subtle jab at the party scene, where people fake power but it’s all surface, all vice. The bar’s a contrast between the fantasy they sell and the emptiness they livin’.

“Real life: I’m the glitch in the Matrix / Neo’s a blade, face full of hatred”
This bar taps into The Matrix but flips the lens. “Real life: I’m the glitch in the Matrix” means I don’t fit the system. I’m the error they didn’t program for. While most people move like code, predictable and controlled, I disrupt the loop just by being real. Then “Neo’s a blade, face full of hatred” takes the Neo symbol deeper. I’m sayin’ I ain’t just the One like Neo, I’m a weapon too, sharp like a blade, dangerous to the fake. The “face full of hatred” part is about how awakening can make you see the ugliness in everything. Once you unplug from illusion, love don’t come easy because now you see how deep the lie runs. So this bar is rebellion, awareness, and refusal to play their game.

“Grew out the mud like a black rose / Now my wrist talk back like Alexa knows”
This bar’s all symbolism and flex through pain. “Grew out the mud like a black rose” is about beauty born from the struggle. A black rose does not even grow naturally, it is rare, almost mythic, and the mud is the hardship I had to survive. It is saying I did not just bloom, I became something one of one, shaped by pressure not comfort. Then “Now my wrist talk back like Alexa knows” flips it to modern wealth. I am talking smartwatches, diamonds that catch light like tech, and also how success speaks loud even when I do not. It is a statement that my past was dirt, but now my presence has voice, value, and data in it.

“Man talk tough, move like a runner / I’m calm, still hot like summer”
This line is contrast and control. “Man talk tough, move like a runner” is me calling out people who act hard but fold quick. They bark loud but as soon as things get real, they dip. It is a diss to performative masculinity, all front, no backbone. Then I flip it with “I’m calm, still hot like summer”, that is quiet confidence. I do not need to flex or shout because my presence already brings heat. It is that Killmonger energy, composed on the surface but full of fire underneath. Calm does not mean cold, it means focused.

“Dripped in none, no stutter / Got her wet, ain’t even touch her”
This bar is minimalism with max impact. “Dripped in none, no stutter” means I do not need flashy clothes or designer fits to make noise. No chains, no loud brands, just presence. “No stutter” means my energy speaks smooth and direct, no hesitation. Then “Got her wet, ain’t even touch her” is deeper than just sexual wordplay. It is about aura and mind game. I move with intention, and that confidence creates attraction without needing to do the most. It is about control, magnetism, and the silent power of self-mastery.

“Walk in lookin’ like vengeance / Mind on cash, heart in ascension”
This bar is all about duality. “Walk in lookin’ like vengeance” means I carry the weight of everything I’ve been through. I step in with that aura like I got unfinished business, like every move I make is payback to a world that doubted me. It is giving that Batman, dark, focused, not here for attention but for results. Then “Mind on cash, heart in ascension” shows the balance. I am chasing the bag, no question, but my spirit’s on a higher path. It is about staying grounded in hustle while still reaching for growth, purpose, something bigger than flex.

“Quote me like Shakespeare, vibe like Blade / Sharp in the shade”
This bar’s me claiming my own lane. “Quote me like Shakespeare” means I write with weight, bars that stick, lines that hit deep like poetry. I am not just rhyming, I am crafting something that deserves to be studied. Then “vibe like Blade” brings that edge. Blade is half-human, half-vampire, always walking in between worlds. That is how I feel in this game, part light, part dark, moving silent but dangerous. “Sharp in the shade” is that stealth energy. Even when I am lowkey or in the background, I am still cutthroat, still precise. It is about being deadly without needing the spotlight.

“Crown heavy, yeah, I carry that bitch / Ego ain’t come with a switch”
This bar is about the weight of identity and responsibility. “Crown heavy, yeah, I carry that bitch” means I know what I’m worth and I own it, but that greatness comes with pressure. It’s that King’s burden, not just flexing a crown but holding it down through pain, legacy, and expectation. Then “Ego ain’t come with a switch” is real, once you’ve seen yourself rise from nothin’, that confidence stays on. You can’t just turn it off to make people comfortable. It’s not arrogance, it’s survival. The ego was built from scars, not applause.

“Power in my words, make the whole world glitch / You talkin’ ’bout my shit”
This bar is me owning the force behind my voice. “Power in my words, make the whole world glitch” is about how my lyrics don’t just hit, they disrupt. Like a glitch in a system, my truth shakes people outta autopilot. That is some Matrix meets Kendrick type energy, words that bend reality, make you question what’s real. “You talkin’ ’bout my shit” is me catching how folks stay watchin’, speakin’ on what I do, whether to praise or hate. Either way, they tuned in, because when you speak with real power, silence ain’t an option.

“While I got double this pitch / Fuck a throne, I’m the storm in the palace”
“While I got double this pitch” is me saying I’m on another frequency. Higher skill, sharper tone, twice the range, both vocally and mentally. I’m not just playing the game, I’m bending it. Then “Fuck a throne, I’m the storm in the palace” flips the whole idea of power. I’m not tryna sit pretty and be crowned, I am the chaos that exposes fake royalty. It’s anti-establishment, like Joker turning the system inside out. I don’t want your seat, I bring the flood that washes all that false kingdom talk away.

“Hail like I came from malice / Play no games, no need for a chalice”
“Hail like I came from malice” is me saying my presence hits cold and hard, like a storm born from pain. Hail don’t just fall, it damages. That line flips the idea of admiration, people might hail me now, but they forget I came from a place of struggle, scars, and sharp lessons. Then “Play no games, no need for a chalice” means I’m not here for ceremonies or pretending. A chalice is for royalty or rituals, but I’m not into the pageantry. I’m not sipping with kings, I’m shaking thrones. It’s raw, no filters, no politics, just truth.

“(I saw you dancin’ with your ego again / Talkin’ like God but you build with your sin / All of that fire, it’s burnin’ your skin)”
This whole bar is a mirror to pride and self-deception. “I saw you dancin’ with your ego again” is calling out that loop people fall into, feeding their image, not their soul. It’s like they performing for a crowd that ain’t even watching. “Talkin’ like God but you build with your sin” hits hard, you preaching like you righteous, but your foundation dirty. That’s a shot at fake prophets, clout chasers, even celebrity spirituality. Then “All of that fire, it’s burnin’ your skin” means your own hype and anger consuming you. You lit the flame for status or power, but now it’s killing what’s real underneath. It’s a warning, ego don’t elevate, it erodes.

“No stylist, chains, no mask / Still got presence, crack your glass”
“No stylist, chains, no mask” means I don’t need a team to dress me up, I’m not hiding behind jewelry, trends, or fake personas. What you see is raw, self-curated energy. It’s that J. Cole in a hoodie type confidence, real don’t need costume. Then “Still got presence, crack your glass” is me sayin’ my aura alone is disruptive. Like I walk in and your worldview shatters. It’s metaphorical but also spiritual, the “glass” is ego, illusion, whatever shield you got up. I show up authentic and it exposes everything fake around me.

“Time don’t wait and ain’t got a liar / Fuck your fame, we just need our lairs”
“Time don’t wait and ain’t got a liar” is me reminding that time is the realest force out there. It never stops, never fronts, and it exposes everything fake. You can lie to the world, but time always tells the truth. About your choices, your grind, your legacy. Then “Fuck your fame, we just need our lairs” flips the value system. I’m not chasing clout or red carpets. I’m focused on building safe spaces, creative zones, real foundations, our “lairs.” Like how heroes or villains operate from the shadows, we build power off the grid. Fame is noise. The lair is where vision grows.

“You know where wolves don’t bark / They just come bite in pairs”
“You know where wolves don’t bark” is saying real ones don’t make noise. No need to warn, no need to flex. It’s wolf mentality. Silent, focused, calculated. Then “They just come bite in pairs” brings that double edge. I’m never alone, and when we move, we move tight and precise. It’s not about squads showing off, it’s about pack energy, loyalty, silence, and strike only when necessary. This bar’s a warning: the loud ones ain’t the threat. It’s the quiet ones who already in position.

“Ain’t got time for a fake cosign / These man just repeat old lines”
“Ain’t got time for a fake cosign” is me saying I don’t need validation from clout chasers or industry plants. If your support ain’t real, keep it. I’m not here to beg for seats at tables I could flip. Then “These man just repeat old lines” is a shot at the unoriginal, artists recycling the same flows, same bars, same gimmicks like it’s 2010 forever. It’s me pushing back on how watered down the game got. I’m bringing new frequency, new language, and I’m not here to echo. I’m here to evolve the sound.

“I move like Lelouch, mask off for truth / Built in the dark, now I speak for youth”
“I move like Lelouch, mask off for truth” taps straight into Code Geass. Lelouch was a mastermind, always steps ahead, playing both hero and villain to break a corrupt system. I’m sayin’ I move with that same calculated purpose, but unlike him, I’m takin’ the mask off. I’m not hiding behind personas, my rebellion is honest. “Built in the dark, now I speak for youth” means I came up in silence, struggle, maybe even shadows, but now I’m the voice for the next ones comin’ up. This bar’s about transformation. Pain to power, silence to speech, and truth as revolution.

“Came from nothin’, now I’m breakin’ the loop / Ain’t no role model, just the proof”
“Came from nothin’, now I’m breakin’ the loop” is me sayin’ I didn’t just rise up, I shattered the cycle. Whether it’s poverty, silence, generational pain, or self-doubt, I didn’t follow the script life handed me. I rewrote it. Then “Ain’t no role model, just the proof” is honest. I’m not tryna be perfect or polished for anyone. I’m just the evidence that it’s possible, to come from zero and still build something real. It’s that JAY-Z energy, that “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man.” I’m not here to preach, I’m just here to exist loud enough that others know they can too.

“Fuck they love, don’t beg for praise / Crowns in my scars, pain my base”
“Fuck they love, don’t beg for praise” is me standing ten toes down in self-worth. I’m not here to chase applause or twist myself for approval. Love that comes with conditions ain’t love at all. Then “Crowns in my scars, pain my base” flips pain into power. Every scar I got ain’t a weakness, it’s a crown I earned. My foundation ain’t built on fame or hype, it’s built on everything I survived. This bar’s about owning the hurt and turning it into something regal. No fairy tale, just real royalty forged in the fire.

“Ain’t drill, ain’t rap, bloodline phase / Talkin’ my shit till buried in grace”
“Ain’t drill, ain’t rap, bloodline phase” is me sayin’ this ain’t just a genre or trend, it’s ancestral. I’m not boxed in by labels like drill or rap, I’m channelin’ somethin’ deeper, like a spiritual inheritance passed through pain, culture, and survival. This is generational. Then “Talkin’ my shit till buried in grace” means I’ma speak my truth unapologetically till the day I’m gone, but not in chaos, in grace. That’s legacy talk. It’s not about fame, it’s about leavin’ behind energy that uplifts, even when I’m underground.

“الخير والشرّ طريقان في عين واحدة، لا ترى النور حتى تدخل في الظلّ
الحقيقة لا تصرخ، لكنها تحرق كل شيء لا يحتمل نورها
من ظنّ نفسه نقيًّا، نسي أن الطين أساس كل خلقٍ حيّ”

These bars in Arabic hit on dualism, truth, and human ego. “Good and evil are two paths in one eye” is saying we only start to understand light once we’ve walked through shadow. It’s that yin-yang, non-dual perspective, you can’t know real peace without facing your chaos. “Truth doesn’t scream, but it burns everything that can’t handle its light” speaks to how real truth is quiet but devastating, like revelation. If you’re not ready, it breaks you. And “He who thinks he’s pure forgets that mud is the origin of all life” is a reminder that humility is holy. We’re all from dirt, and that’s divine. Forgetting that is how ego grows, and how truth humbles.

“Who do you hurt when you always must win?”
Is a real self-check and a call-out. When your whole life’s about domination, about never losing, you start takin’ people out emotionally, spiritually, sometimes even physically, just to stay on top. It’s capitalist mindset meets broken ego. You think you’re winning, but you’re bleeding everyone around you, maybe even yourself. This bar’s for the overachievers, the power-hungry, the ones who mistake survival for purpose. Winning ain’t worth it if the cost is your soul or the love around you. That line’s not just shade, it’s a mirror.
