In My Zone by Tovan

There’s nights when solitude feels like the only company, when the phone lights up but the heart’s already gone somewhere else. That’s what this song is for me. It’s not just about distance, it’s about owning your space, about being in that zone where silence feels louder than any call.

When I wrote this Pop/R&B song, I wasn’t just talkin’ about leaving someone on read. I was talkin’ about chasing clarity, about stepping out of the noise to hear myself. The late nights, the floating, the rush of light and phase of love. This track is me confessin’ how escape can be both lonely and liberating, how sometimes being gone is the only way to arrive.

Lyrics

Late nights I been on my own
You call but I’m gone
Late nights I been on my own
You call but I’m gone

Back when I was 18
And I don’t even mean
You glance a single time
Take my conscience inside
Nothing feels ’bout tomorrow
I feel so fine

Feelin’ like I’m floatin’, lost in the night
Stars up in the sky, but I’m caught in your light
Heart racin’, no brakes, I’m ridin’ the wave
You say you love me, but I know it’s a phase

Late nights I been on my own
You call but I’m gone
Late nights I been on my own
You call but I’m gone

You would take off your mood
And know I would go none to show
Nothin’ to fight it be might
You would take off all your mood
All would be stricken out
All the bricks start to breaking now
But I’m outside by now, we’re just outside
I just need my time when it’s about flight

Feelin’ like I’m floatin’, lost in the night
Stars up in the sky, but I’m caught in your light
Heart racin’, no brakes, I’m ridin’ the wave
You say you love me, but I know it’s a phase

Late nights I been on my own
You call but I’m gone
Late nights I been on my own
You call but I’m gone
Baby, I been in my zone
You can’t reach me on my phone

Annotation

“Late nights I been on my own / You call but I’m gone”
This is me drawin’ a boundary. The phone rings, but I’m not in that world anymore. I’m off-grid, not physically but emotionally. It’s the sound of choosing myself over someone else’s reach.

“Back when I was 18 / And I don’t even mean / You glance a single time / Take my conscience inside”
A flashback to youth. The way one glance could hijack my mind. At 18, everything felt eternal in a moment. Those sparks shaped how I carry myself now.

“Nothing feels ’bout tomorrow / I feel so fine”
The weight of the future disappears. I’m rooted in right now. No anxiety, no plan. Just a freedom that feels intoxicating.

“Feelin’ like I’m floatin’, lost in the night / Stars up in the sky, but I’m caught in your light”
Here I admit the paradox: I want to be alone, yet I’m still pulled by someone’s glow. The stars wide open, but their light overshadows everything.

“You say you love me, but I know it’s a phase”
A raw truth. The words feel sweet, but I can sense the expiration date. That love is temporary, a season, a passing wave.

“You would take off your mood… All the bricks start to breaking now”
This is about vulnerability. When someone drops their guard, the walls crack. But even then, I know I can’t stay locked inside that scene forever.

“I just need my time when it’s about flight”
The exit line. It’s not rejection, it’s preservation. Sometimes you gotta take flight to protect your fire.

“Baby, I been in my zone / You can’t reach me on my phone”
The ultimate closure. I’m unreachable, not because I don’t care, but because I finally care about myself more.
